I believe that pork-barrel legislation in a necessary evil in the world of politics. If the federal government makes funds available to each state and district, political representatives should secure those funds for their districts. It’s no secret that politicians sometimes use their influence for their own personal gain, so why not use it to improve the lives of their constituents and/or their hometowns. I think that as long there is a genuine need for the funds and those funds are used appropriately then, in today’s political climate, representatives must do whatever necessary to meet the needs of those they represent.
